A Hot Sauce of a Different Color!

You take one look at Buck-Oh! Sauce and think, “It’s brown. How could it be hot?” Yeah, I would think that too. Hot sauces are usually red, or green, or yellow, or somewhere in between that part of the visible light spectrum. And they are usually very hot or really hot. When you put them in your mouth, your tongue has nowhere to hide. And your tongue (and your lips) are most likely going to suffer a third-degree fake-burn (hot peppers have an oily compound call capsaicin which gives off that sensation.) Buck-Oh! Sauce is different. Buck-Oh! Sauce has something fun for every part of your tongue!

How Does It Work?

Buck-Oh! Sauce is a classic misdirect. When you first put the sauce (or the food with the sauce) in your mouth, you taste one flavor. As it moves toward the back of your mouth, the other flavors are released along the way – moving to one side of your tongue or the other. When Buck-Oh! Sauce reaches the back of your mouth, then it hits you – the heat. But the heat doesn’t make you grab for something to put it out because the heat only lasts for a few seconds. And if you liked the sensation, then you’ll want more of the flavor. So you’ll put more Buck-Oh! Sauce into your mouth.

Hotter Is On Its Way

But if you are into that sort of culinary masochism that would experience with other hot sauces, Buck-Oh! Sauce will be available in different levels of heat. And just like old Dante himself, you can wander through all of them to get the end. First you’ll try the Stinger which is made with Trinidad Scorpion pepper. If that doesn’t deter you from going forward, then you’ll put Ghost Protocol in your mouth. It is made with…wait for it…wait for it…the Ghost pepper. The last level of pain is called – Reaper Madness which is made with Carolina Reaper pepper. (I have to apologize to my son’s friend, Ben, I didn’t know that Sean was going to get you to sprinkle Carolina Reaper powder on your Buck-Oh! Jerky. I now keep it locked up. You did live through it though…).

I wouldn’t recommend using that much hot sauce on the grill if you were using say, Dave’s Insanity Sauce, or Louisiana Hot Sauce, or Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, or Cholula Hot Sauce, or really anything that is green, or orange, or red, and comes in a small bottle. That would be insane. Many of those hot sauces have several different kinds of peppers in them and give you that “OMG I need a drink” sensation. That isn’t what Buck-Oh! Sauce is all about.

A Quick Word about Garlic, Ginger, and Sesame Oil

These three ingredients form the Buck-Oh! Sauce flavor backbone. It doesn’t get any better than that. Do they have medicinal properties? Maybe. Perhaps some are aphrodisiac in nature? That depends on how Buck-Oh! Sauce makes you feel. But there is plenty of information out on the inter web that suggests that there is some health benefit for each of these ingredients. Taste, enjoy, draw your own conclusions.
